The Plot Thickens
Pardon me for my absence.
Life has taken several plot twists here which have proved expensive, physically draining, and emotionally crushing. Without being crass about it, you probably don’t care about that, so I will spare you the details.
On the bright side, I did receive a check for $104 from my publisher and am only $1800 in the hole on my first book at this point. Ah, the joys of self-publishing. But there are reviews being written, contests entered, and an article or two in local journals about the budding author. Hope springs eternal.
The publishing world is a frustrating one. I’ve probably spent more time writing various synopses than I did choosing character names. I’ve written a dozen author’s biographies in various formats. Everybody wants my money for marketing or contests etc. And this blog/website is a ghost town.
I know about 60 people have read my book, but I’ve only heard from about six of them. (Happily, those six usually say, “When is the next one coming out?”)
I recently ran across a publisher who said websites are a waste of time to sell books. People only look for you AFTER they have read the book. THAT took the wind out of my sails.
But a real writer has a hunger to say something. I enjoy this blog for the challenge of being coherent for some future audience as well as for you. I must write, and when the Muse is not interested in THE BOOK, (I have two in the works.) she writes here or in a newsletter I work for.
So… “Plot twist!”
I hope to see you later this week.
