Having a Wary, Chary Christmas?

That’s only part of the quote. Here’s the rest. It applies to today’s Covid-infected, government closed up, “woke” world.

“…And then, just when everything is bearing down on us to such an extent that we can scarcely withstand it, the Christmas message comes to tell us that all our ideas are wrong, and that what we take to be evil and dark is really good and light because it comes from God. Our eyes are at fault, that is all. God is in the manger, wealth in poverty, light in darkness, succor in abandonment. No evil can befall us; whatever men may do to us, they cannot but serve the God who is secretly revealed as love and rules the world and our lives.”

If you don’t know Dietrich Bonhoeffer, he was a German Lutheran pastor who opposed Hitler from the moment the Nazi’s took power to the moment Hitler had him executed as the war was winding down. Bonhoeffer fought to keep the church independent of government, and to recognize the Jewish people as “God’s Chosen ones.” He had several chances to escape persecution but chose to share the suffering of his people (including rigged elections even within the church) so that he might better participate in the post-war re-construction of the German church. His book, written during WWII, The Cost of Discipleship, is a powerful testimony of a man who probably knew he would die before his time.

Have a Merry Christmas. God’s got this.
