A Thought About Promotion
Edgar Allan Poe caught my attention in middle school with The Raven and The Pit and the Pendulum. His work certainly touched on the mad but, except for his drinking, was Poe really mad or just a good promoter?
His contributions to literature might never have surfaced without the help of others. Like many Hollywood agents today, he may have known that there is no bad publicity. He didn’t resort to costume malfunctions and messy divorces, but a mystic outrageous remark like this one didn’t hurt his appeal to folks seeking something new to read.
Your blog, webpage, or even FB page is not a bad place to intrigue folks to read your work. But beware. Today those are also places where the wrong word can cost you your day job.
By the way, if you don’t know Poe’s guidance for short stories (an American literary invention mostly of his) then you may have trouble selling any.
